TWO-FOR-NO. 1
Date: November 7, 2017
It’s not often that a player achieves separate franchise and NHL milestones in the same night, but that’s what Roberto Luongo did on November 7, 2017. In a 3-1 loss to the Carolina Hurricanes on the road, Luongo logged his 500th game for the Panthers and his 972nd game in the NHL. That night, Luongo passed Terry Sawchuk to take sole possession of no. 3 all-time for games played by a goalie. He would go on to also overtake Patrick Roy for second on the all-time list, before retiring in 2019 after 1,044 games.
